Where it began ...
“Mixxed & Mashed” started out as a bit of a (musical) joke. Heavily inspired by the serendipity of bands such as “Les Truttes”, the “Magical Flying Thunderbirds”, “The Vicious”, "Smashdance", "Dr. Fred & the Medicine Men", "Cookies & Cream" and "The Amazing Flowers", the two brothers in the line-up first ventured into the magical world of medleys back in 2008. With the magnificent and notorious hard-brass-rock-band collective “Jacky Charcuterie & the Boney Hams” (which occasionally performed in bars around Ghent at the time), they wanted to take the noble art of making medleys and mash-ups one step further than others did. Taking that small step in terms of musical arrangement and one giant leap in defiance of good taste, they bridged the gap between Heavy Metal and Disco with an experiment they like to call “Metallisco”. Since it worked out quite spectacularly, they asked themselves: “Why stop there”?

A nameless band on a mission ...
And so, they embarked on their quest, armed with a good idea, an ambitious plan and a bunch of guys that wanted to play strange and beautiful music together. Three years of hard work and perseverance later, bribing and nagging the right people to join the band resulted in the desired concept. Originally, they were going to call themselves “The hitmen”, as a reference to the fact that the band was brought together as a gang of musical mercenaries (and because of an unhealthy "Reservoir Dogs"-fascination). However, as there was a ton of cover bands that already used numerous variations to that theme, they decided to go for a name that held a reference to their fascination for (culinary) combining the unusual suspects; something that pointed out that two very unlikely ingredients sometimes go very well together indeed... So they decided on "Shaken & Stirred". TAKEN !! Finding a good name proved to be an arduous process, yet after countless hours spent on the urban dictionary with a hilarious list of awful names as a result, they finally ended up with something more or less decent ...

The roller coaster is about to begin ...
So, as the illegitimate love child of numerous other bands - spanning genres from Folk to Hardcore - "MiXXed & Mashed" was born in the late summer of 2010. Armed with a well-trained, amply skilled band and a list of musical material that easily spans 5 decades and exceeds 7 hours worth of total play time (in a range of genres human comprehension can hardly fathom), it is safe to say that they are more than able to get any party going and anxious to do so ... Hope to see you soon! |
